With a US budget already stretched and military expenditure at its all time high -- (in fact the US military expenditure is something like 7 times that of its nearest rival, being china), not to mention the increased deployment of troops--- any war with Iran would require more than just american military presence.

War with Iran would put (yet) another point against the US trying to deny that this is turning into a religious war.

They better start pumping oil out of Iraq and fast to be able to cover future war costs!

Ask the Iraqis - they fought against them for 8 years. That war has been called "the longest conventional war of the 20th century", and cost 1 million casualties and US$1.19 trillion.

Sides are not an issue unless we have a known reason for a conflict. If it is a US/Iran conflict with minimal support of the international community. This is the most likely scenario (unless Iran goes nuts and threatens a nuclear attack) then the US will be on one side and the rest of the world with the exception of Israel on the other.

A war with Iran will be nother training ground for the US forces and a testing ground for US military hardwares.
There will be thousands of Iranians dead and also some US military personnels, during the early days. More to follow in the next days, weeks, and months. Just like in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The war would also mean oil for the US; sale of US military equipments; super deeper resentment of fanatical muslim extremist and their supporters; terroristics retaliation of American-Iranians; rallies of anti-war proponents.

I hope and pray that this never happens. Humanity is suffering right now. War with Iran would make it worse.

It will be a cake walk. Iranians will throw flowers at our troops. The oil will pay for the war and Iran is suffering under brutal brutal Inmans. Iranians WMDs, and the lack of free dumb poses a threat to the US. After that we can have elections and go home victorious. Lets do it.

All Air, No boots.

We would bomb their suspected installations and government facilities. Maybe take out some infrastructure.
I don't see us going in and trying to set up a Democracy.
They have many westernized Iranians, who we would hope would step up and begin governing.
Taking out their nuclear capabilities would leave us all safe and free to protest global warming and all future wars.

Israel is going to nuke Iran's nuclear facilities in the near future and that will be about all it amounts to, because it will leave Iran in a complete hash.

It would have to be done from the air because no army has ever successfully invaded Iran. It would be an undeniable mess. The best way would be to just lend support to the students who are now protesting against their Dictator/President.

Short. They tried for seven years to defeat Iraq and Saddam. They failed badly. Had to have the UN bail them out. We destroyed Saddams army twice in less than three months. Figure it out. Oh try reading a little about world affairs and recent history
