Let's assume I'm an adult who finished high school, but for whatever reason (maybe I have a child, or I'm working three jobs, or I can't afford it) I never went to college. Also, let's assume I have no assets and no savings, I'm living in an apartment and I don't have any particular skills or abilities. If I were to look for a job, what are my chances of finding something above minimum wage? What is the highest wage/salary I could possibly hope for, if I began an entry level? What are my chances for promotion? If I were earning a minimum wage salary, and I didn't spend money on superfluous things (entertainment), would I be able to survive? Save money?
Would my chances be affected if I were a minority? A female?

What country?

In the Untied States, believe it or not, you have a good chance of finding an above minimum wage job. For example, I worked in a call center some years ago and started out at $7.50 an hour. Not a fortune, but above minimum wage. In less than 2 years I was promoted twice and was at $12 an hour. I did not have any college at the time, and many people there had no previous work experience. Sales is another place were you can earn more than minimum wage. I know plenty of people that start at above minimum wage without college or much experience. However you have to be flexible on the type of work you are willing to do and location. You also have to be a good employee. Your chances as a minority or woman should only be affected in higher positions, not entry level. Not that it does not happen at entry level, but at a lesser degree.

Saving money at minimum wage depends on cost of living. Do you pay rent or do you live with your parents? How much is rent if you pay? Utilities? Food? Clothing? That kind of stuff will make a difference.

This sounds like a question that so many people have these days. I was a single mother that had to drop out of College after about 2 months because I could not take care of my son go to work and school. So I went to work instead of finishing a education. I took jobs and held two jobs at a time to make ends meet and if I saw another job avail paying a better amt I left an went there. But now that I am grown and so is my child and I sit back and look at my life what you should do is take a job at an entry level position and keep that job and do your best at it and in no time you will be making money so thay you can live comfortable.

Anyone can get a job starting at the bottom and work there way up quickly if you have the will. A lot of companies have schooling for those who chose to take it.

If this is a question about you good luck and its easy if you want it to be.

Im guessing that this isnt really a hypothetical question but ok.
To be honest your chances of getting above minimum wage are very very mimited if not absolutly nil. However if you were to go to something like night school then you might have a chance. There are a lot of firms that offer training as and when suits you so that you can get skills that will get you somewhere in your life
