I stopped the depo-provera shot in November of 2006. While I was on it, I never had periods except maybe twice in the 3 years i was on it. I switched to the pill and had my period right away on the 4th week.

By the way, I am not trying to concieve. But I thought this would be the best category to put it. Thankyou!

Now that I'm having periods again, does that mean I'm fertile? Does that mean I am able to concieve? I heard the depo can take up to a year or more for it's affects to leave the body and some women don't get there period untill that time. But I had mine, it was a normal period and lasted around a week.

This is the 3rd time I have answered this ? today... lol... Here is what I put for the other 2... and I hope it helps you as well... Good Luck sweetie...

Ok honey... Calm down... It will happen... I know from experience... I was on the shot for about 7 years... I started it when I was a sophmore in high school... even though I was a virgin... (my mom insisted cause my sis got pregnant when she was 16)... But anyways...

I had my last dose of depo in April of 04'... I didn't concieve til Nov 24th of 05'... Thanksgiving day last year to be exact...

Try not to think about it... When we tried... It NEVER happened... When we didn't... I didn't even notice I was late til 3 weeks later... lol... I was 8 weeks pregnant...

Sadly that pregnancy ended in m/c... Now I'm not saying that is going to happen... My doc said alot of women who have been on depo for a long time m/c there first... But then alot don't... So just take care of yourself when you do conceive and your lil bean... Good Luck... Your in my prayers... I know how you must feel... It will be get better... Baby Dust to you...

Having irregular periods has more to do with hormone levels than being unable to conceive. I also took depo for many years and was told that it would take a while for my periods to return to normal. It took about 6 months. If you were irregular before b/c it could be for many reasons so if you are planning to try and become pregnant in the near future go and have a physical with your obgyn. It is a good time to establish a good relationship with a doctor you feel comfortable with because you will be spending alot of time with her in the near future. She will help to dispel any fears you may have. She will also be able to give you some information on things to avoid and give you some prenatal vitamins. Which is the first thing you can do now to give your baby a healthy start.

As soon as you stop the shot, there's a good chance fertility will return. That's why you need to get a new shot every 3 months. In many women it wears off at that time. Periods may not return to normal for some months after that, however. I only had one shot, but my period was wanky for a good 6 months afterwards (I had to stop the shot because I spotted for the whole 3 months I was on it).

If your periods are back to normal, it's highly likely your fertility is back to normal as well.

Maybe, I was on Depo Provera for years and I was always told that it can last any where up to 3 months after your last injection is due. I would just be careful if you do not want to get pregnant. I think it may just depend on your body, it varies from person to person.

My RE told me that depo can stay in your system up to 18 months after your last injection. I got my last injection in March 2003...started having normal periods but it took 13 months for the depo to come out of my system and be able to conceive.

Then it was most likely a period. I was also on the depo shot for 3 years and i stopped taking it to become pregnant and i did -a year later.

I remember that the next month after i was suppost to take that last shot i started my period and they were normal every month up until i founf out i was pregnant. When i was on the shot i never once bled.

Go to http://www.deposhot.com to read more into it.
But i do know (from my doctor) that after stopping the shot you can become pregnant from 4-12 months afterwards.
Good luck
