It's the language which makes me feel proud to be British.

I have a French mother, an Italian father, a Czech boyfriend and many of my friends are Polish.

The Poles talk to the Czech in something or other, the Czech can talk to my mother in French, my mother can speak to my father in Italian.

When I enter the room, and they're all together, they all speak English.

That's how I know I'm a true Brit, because if they didn't, I wouldn't understand a word!

I feel more human. English defines the culture I was raised in and the system of values I was educated in. It doesn't define who I am. Anyway, I think most peoples idea of 'Englishness' relates to some Victorian idea about afternoon tea and has no relation to the mess that England is today.

hmmm, never really thought about it, for me I'd like to think of myself as more Angle, but in reality I'm probably a mixture of many.

When I traced my ancestry I managed to get back to the 17th century where I had a direct ancestor (through my father) who was a Yeoman in a small town in Somerset in the South West of England, because of where that town is He probably came from Norman stock, My Mothers family came from Kent, so not sure of the ancestry on that side (will have to research).

Good question, not really knowing my roots (a bit eastern european, a bit romany gypsy and a large chunk of who knows what) I'd say I feel English. I'm proud of the ol' mixed background of the English. Makes us unique in not being anything inparticular! It's awsome ;)

None of the above, just English. Over the centuries we took the best bits of other races, discarded the crap bits (like celtic ginger hair) and finished up with the finest race of people on the planet
