Total freedom is good because every person here on earth has the right to be informed and these people should not get one-sided reports on news. Total freedom in media means that, regardless of factors such as politcs and favoritism, people will get the whole story and the good part is that they themselves will get to decide fairly because they can weigh all factors.

I taught Journalism for a while...I drilled into my students' head that the main purpose of the media is to watchdog the government and inform the public. I believe the original purpose of freedom of the press was to allow media to publicize not only things that the government did or didn't do, but also to offer subjective opinions about the government. If we are a democracy, Joe-citizen has to know what is going on or else he simply can't participate in his own democracy. If the media didn't tell him, he wouldn't or couldn't participate, and we would not be a democracy...we'd be something more like a kingdom or a dictatorship.

Total freedom in the media enables people to share their views about things and see how other people feel. For example... during the presedential elections there is a lot of total freedom used in the candidates commercials, this can be a good or bad thing depending upon how you view it, its good because you find out a lot about the candidates that way, but bad b/c you never really know if its true. Total freedom over media helps presidential candidates

A well informed public able to make wise decisions from what they have learned from the press- will most likely be a top ans. but there are drawbacks to it. ie... Is the info. accurate, does the public really need to know that about a certain person etc., and are the reporters responsible enough to get the correct info. in a way that is not intrusive.
The public needs to know the gory details of war, famine, death, and disease to become more caring of their fellow human beings and to prepare our own lives for the future. ie...Too much was NOT given to the public about the Katrina disaster and some accounts were misleading.
We are a nation & world of people who seem to want the truth so why not give it to us.
Better to learn the WHOLE truth in the begining then find out much later- Life is not all flowers and beautiful sunsets after all.

Well...in MY opinion, total freedom in media is good because people can finally find out stuff about others, people are writing about important personalities that-for an example-rule their country. Thanks to freedom of speech, now people have the opportunity to find out just how is the person they are going to elect. And that's just an example. Try making things up, like the one I gave you. Don't just post the question here and wait for someone else to do your homework, use your imagination and think of reasons why you consider it to be something good. Try to think at how people were in the past-at how little they knew, how little they were informed about, how they couldn't speak their minds and now they do.... Hope it's of any use. Good luck!

Besides the fact that we are protected by the 1st Amendment of our Constitution and Bill of Rights freedom of the press, we should feel good to say whatever we want about whoever we want as long as it is true, damaging or not the public has a right to know everything about a person who calls himself an American and is in the public eye or arena.

It allows the media to correctly inform the public about current events, even if they show a bad side of our government or its' officials in a bad light, without the possibillity of harsh consicqunces.

It allows for people to voice their opinions on stuff. It lets more people have a say in what should be done. That's good i guess...
