My actual question is this; Can you love a man and a wonam at the same time? I'm a gay man, and I can understand loving either one gender or another and I believe that someone can enjoy sex with both genders, but can you love both?

I don't mean to cause any offence by this, I'm just interested.

I totally appreciate your respectful way of asking, and I completely understand your confusion . . . truth be told, as a bisexual woman, I have just the same ideas about 'monosexuality'! Everybody just needs to try and imagine how other people must feel when we don't have the same feelings.

You can definitely love both genders, just as you can feel sexual attraction for both. You say 'can you love a man and a woman at the same time?', and I'm not sure what that means, because that's not bisexuality (well, I mean, yes it is), but that's polyamory. A lot of bisexuals aren't polyamorous, but monogamous, and love and have sex serially, that is, one at a time in their relationships. But yes, you can feel deep emotional connection with both sexes. I find that less about bisexuality, though (which has to do with, well, SEX), and just about loving individuals.

Hope that helps!

Being bi isn't about loving more than one person at the same time, or about needing both sexes in your life.

It is simply finding yourself attracted to certain people, for all the usual reasons, and not being prejudiced in advance about which set of genitals they happen to have.

It's a valid sexual identity, not a 'halfway point' when 'becoming' gay (although some people refer to themselves as bi before they admit they are gay, if they have previously pretended to be straight). It also has nothing to do with being confused, or promiscuous, although a lot of people will tell you otherwise.

As far as love goes, it is exactly as possible for a bisexual person to be in love with two people at once as it is for anyone else. Only they could be two people of either gender, or one of each.
Falling in love is a complicated thing, pretty much out of our control, so I don't think there are rules about it.

It depends on how you define love. You can love lots of people but not in the way you would your partner. If you are saying can a man love and want a man and a woman then if you are truly bisexual I assume it is possible. Being gay myself I have never loved a woman in the same way that I love my male partner - and I was married to a woman for 20 years but only really lived with her rather than loving her in a true sense.

At the same time? This is just my opinion, mind you, but I don't think a bisexual can love two people of opposite sex at the same time.

Bisexuality (at least in males) tends to have a lot less emphasis on affection with male partners. That's not to say that it doesn't happen but overall, it is not as important as it might be with straights and gays. Male bisexuality tends to be highly erotic and once again, affection is not a main aim; sexual enjoyment and sexual release with another male is.

Actually, male bisexuality places more of an emphasis on "sex" than either homosexuality or heterosexuality.

I am a bisexual myself. I find that a lot of gay erotica or gay sexual acts aren't for me. In terms of sexual acts alone, I am probably more heterosexual.

Despite this, there are some guys who I am really attracted to. No matter how hard I try, I cannot deny my attraction to these guys. To me, they are very good looking - so its definitely about looks. I never think about them in terms of their genitals. A lot of my desires may be purely romantic.

There are some females who I'm attracted to, again due to their looks. There are probably a wider range of females I'd consider "good looking". Again, there would be a romance element here.

If my favourite male and female were lined up and I had to choose. I don't know who I'd choose in the end, but the shape/type of their genitals would not factor in my decision making process.

I'm sorry if this is not making much sense, but I've tried my hardest to come up with an answer direct from my head rather than a text-book.

Yes. I've personally been in love with a man and a woman simultaneously, several times! I'm 100% bisexual, by the way.

I once saw or read an interview with a male prostitute who said that all his customers he had before he settled down with a boy friend had been married men.
Anyway, perhaps the best place to ask the question is in the British House of Commons!!
