Hi, I need to find some experiences of people like me about what is the best language for a physicist to aquire a reading knowledge of either german, russian or french, because they have experience in space programs. My target is Astrophysicis and the College gave me just those languages as a choise to learn. I'll be waiting your answeer.

I'd say any of these is good, but French might be worst. And Germans are probably still better than the Russians, however, the Russian have far mor experience, but inless you cannot read Russian, nobody can tell whether you find useful information on the net .. I doubt so. That leaves German or French in the end ... For you can use French at far more places in the world than German, I suggest you might want to take French.

If you want to go into astrophysics, you should take German. A lot of studies have been done by German scientists, and a couple of the best institutes for astronomy and astrophysics are in Germany (in Bonn and in Munich). There are also a lot of science journals in German.
Russian is also useful, but if you are a native English speaker, it will be a lot more difficult to learn. On average, it takes 2 years to reach intermediate level in German, and 3-4 in Russian, if you are not studying abroad.
