Yes and from my stand point it happens a lot in my lifestyle. In my case it is usually because that person is trying to get brownie points from a particular person or NCO. The whole brown noser stuff.

Girl that is not a best friend she or he is a great pretender .Tell that person how you feel and if it still does not work get yourself a better friend.A best friend puts your interest first and always acknowledges you and uplifts you in front of others.Don't let them make you feel less of a person ,your are great.

Yeah.Infact, my 'best friend' deliberately tried to pushed me out of everything whenever we're surrounded by boys. She never succeeded though.
In my case it was because um(don't take it otherwise ) I was sort of popular and she might have been jealous.
Your friend might be misguided, wanting to show off you know.
Point this out to her(indirectly)
If she/he continues she/he is not your best friend. (I still hang around with her anyways.)
But common, you needn't worry if somebody's out of their minds.
Try to bring them on track and if they don't you can never be invisible .
Your style will get you noticed.
