I think you should take people as you find them.
I was a drug addict for fifteen years and if i was labelled as such i would have real problems now.
I am not the same person at all and could not do my job as a support worker for people with learning disabilities if i still carried my label of drug addict.
So yes we would function better as a society without people labelling but i do think we are all guilty of it to a certain degree.
Acceptance comes with understanding and ignorance breeds stereotyping. Open your mind and you will be surprised!!!

People labelling exists because we as a society have to perceive any possible danger as soon as possible in order to keep us out of it. stereotyping can be bad if taken too far but can be a useful indicate to stop yourself getting into trouble. at the end of the day it is something we do to protect our own skin.

Labelling people should be generalized as in one word....human....
I am not a marxist as explained in above comment..I am rather, an Idealist...I wish we were treating each other all the same then there would be no discrimation no wars and we would all live in a peaceful, shared environment.....

Most of our behaviour patterns are based on the hundreds of thousands of years during which humans were hunter gatherers. If you are hunting, you tend to be tolerant of your own extended family, but you defend your patch of the forest from outsiders.

Labelling people by nationality, race, hair colour etc is basically a way of deciding who can hunt in your patch or not.

it is needed as a way of identifying people, so that we know what to expect from that person and how to act around them
