I just don't understand, some intellectuals were searching for evidence and wrote their studies of the historic incident, why is it so taboo? Why do you get in serious trouble when you try to investigate this certain issue? If all the facts were true and happened, then why punish the people who decided to research it. The actions that were taken against these people made me question and even consider them to be more than conspiracy theorists. What's your opnion?

I was listening to the radio the other morning and they were talking about the Holocaust Conference that was being held in Iran, and the news reporter mentioned that it is illegal to deny the Holocaust in Germany and France, and a few other countries as well. I am not sure the reasonings behind this and it would be rather interesting to find out why certain countries make it illegal to deny the Holocaust. I am not saying that I am denying the Holocaust by an means, I've written papers for history classes and there is too much evidence proving that the Holocaust did happen.

There is no ban on researching the subject and you don't 'get into trouble' for investigating issues. What will result in your ending up in jail is if you categorically fly in the face of the records, facts, personal testimony etc., and say that the Holocaust never happened and it is all a fabrication. Nothing to do with conspiracy theories. The Germans and the Austrians have passed such laws, I guess, as they dont want Holocaust deniers to become something around which neo Nazis can group and grow. They are also, to some extent, very ashamed of what their country did in the very recent past.

Crime was committed in Germany. There is no reason that on such an important historical event Germans are not allowed to investigate the facts themselves and are forced to accept dictation. Holocaust is reality but details need investigation by German themselves. The best thing is to forget past as world has completely changed.

I think everything relating to the Nazis had strict rules applied after the war was over. You can be arrested for showing any sort of support for Nazi actions or thinking. I think the people arrested for investigating the Holocaust are arrested under those guidelines. I guess it's assumed you must support the Nazis viewpoint if you are trying to claim that they didn't really commit any crimes despite the overwhelming evidence. I'd say that's a logical assumption....

The only bowbs who deny the holocaust occured are neo-nazis, islamic fundamentalist extremist, and/or KuKluxKlanners.
While some nations (such as the United States of America) may permit "freedom of expression", others - perhaps more proactively - choose to can their whackos and hate-mongers as soon as they rear their pointy little heads.
Hope that clears it up for you, dahlin'.

Because it is a federal crime in Germany. Although it does sound harsh, the country doesn't want to forget what happened to the Jews. Many of which were German citizens or Europeans.
