First of all, going to Mars is not interstellar travel. It would be interplanetary travel.
And yes, it is possible to colonize Mars ... and only Mars. There isn't any other planet we could colonize. But it would take a huge effort and way more money than mankind over all has got to spend. Thus, it will be done one day in a far far future, when all people on Earth have learned to work as on single unit. .... As of now, just forget about it.

In our solar system, Mars is the only planet that could be colonized. But a big problem with it is that it has less gravity than Earth. You will lose muscle because it will take much less effort to perform the same job as you do on Earth. You will also lose bone density since you would weigh less and you don't need to support as much weight. And any children born on Mars and grow up there would have it even worst.

Our race (human) is a virile, hardy form of life. Our tenacity and drive are such that eventually we will will roam the stars...not necessarily this year or the next, but eventually...once we get over the hate and violence that would otherwise tend to render us incompatible with the idea that we could explore the universe together, as one world among millions. (Wish us luck, because we need all we can get). There are already studies being done about the feasibility of a base on the Moon, and also on Mars. So, yes, I think this is possible.

I personally think it is possible to colonize Mars with a little hardship of coarse, nothing worth having came with out a little hard work, i also think it would be wise to colonize the asteroid belt to create mining colonies also the asteroid belt is closer to Mars than earth is to Mars" but don't quote me on that one". The metals mined on the asteroid belt could be sent to Mars for smelting and refining to be used in constructing buildings for new colonists.

It IS possible to colonise other worlds.

Cheap? Easy? No.

Just like the explorers going to different areas of our own planet, it will be costly and dangerous and will sometimes end in the total loss of the colony.

Persistence and planning are the keys to success.

Colonizing Mars would be harder than colonizing Antarctica, and we haven't done that yet.

i would think it is possible..just that it would probably take alot of effort and time..and not to mention could be very dangerous since the initial planet is not meant to sustain life.. so things like atmosphere, temperature of the planet kinda worries me..
