Quality project (I'm a designer too). My nightmares as a kid - or what i remember of them- usually always involved a witch and a little robot. Clowns is a good theme to go with too although i'd give the impression that they were sad and lonely whenever not 'terrorising' people, because there are still lots of kids who like clowns. Good luck and please let me knpow how you come on - would love to see your final pics.

Ghouls and Ghosts and long legged beasts and things that go bump in the night....

Trolls that live under bridges.

Hobgoblins have a tendency to be rather spiteful.

Gargoyles that come to alive at midnight (think Ghost busters)

Painting where the eyes follow you around the room but when you look back well they look normal eek.

OK that scared me....

But then again this could be rather tame maybe you should be looking in the realms of serial killers and such like
(Hannibal) as kids today are not like kids when I was growing up.

Enjoy your project

My son is three and a half and he says he has bad dreams (don't know if it's just to get my sympathy and a cuddle) mostly involving monsters and dinosaurs - it seems to be a common theme amongst his friends too at that age.

Conversely he has good dreams about Spiderman in the attic, for some reason!

Good luck with your project.

Base them on the forms and shadows of everyday bedroom things. That have all been distorted by the darkness and the child's imagination.

The more innocent the item the better

Things with big hands are creepy. A spooked up version of something kids usually like such as creepy granny or a teddy with fangs. Those horrible monkey toys that have cymbals, those are freaky too.

something that shouts really loud. the only nightmare i can remember was a large booming voice that ecod in my head and basically insulted me. cant remember what it said but i also cant remember the horrid voice either. made me jumpy for a whole month whenever anyone with a deep voice said anything too yikes!

There used to be a small and rather vicious crocodile that lived under my sons bed, apparently. We also had issues with dark rooms, evilly flushing toilets and things that lurk in the fridge!
Good luck

I remember as a kid having an awful nightmare about pac men chasing me down neverending dark corridors and eating me. I think anything that chases you that has teeth is the one.

dolls, like baby dolls, coming to life with outstretched frozen arms..

my favourite when I was a kid was clones of my family, who, as they spoke to me, their faces would open piece by piece to reveal an evil robot underneath the skin.

giant rabbits? the size of an elephant. twitching noses no longer so cute, big teeth a bit scary
