Ok this may be long question so please forgive that!
Ok i want to ask about setting up a router. I have a NTL cable modem which i am plugging into a router which also does wireless. Want to run my laptop off it wirelessly, and two pcs and a xbox360 off it fm wire.

It says in the manual select internet connection type. Theres 3 options and i dont know what mine uses? they are

1.Automatic cofig - DHCP - if you are connection through DHCP or a dynamic IP address fm your ISP, keep this default IP setting
2.Static IP - if your ISP assigns you a static IP address select this. Complete the inet IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS fields. (IF it is this how do i get that info?)
3. PPPoE - if you are connecting through PPPoE, select this. Complete User name and Password fields.

Ok How do i find out which one of these i am?

thanks for any help offered!

• ntl has Dynamic IP addresses (assigned by DHCP). You do not have to specify an IP as directed by some manufacturers.

Most likely, you are using 1 or 3. My best guess is you are using 1.

Before you had the router, how did you access the internet? Did you have to log in before using the internet? If Yes, use option 3 pppoe.

Otherwise, if you were able to just use the internet without logging in... than use opt. 1.

I have a LinkSys router modem which is different to yours but I have heard the LinkSys help staff are phenomenal at getting you connected.

Plenty of good reports of LinkSys help on Amazon.co.uk

AFAIK, it's a freephone number...

You get that information from your ISP. They provided it to you when you set up your account with them. Contact your ISP if you have lost that information.

That said, most cable modem systems use DHCP.

I believe Comcast is a cable modem service, so most likely DHCP. However, consult Comcast to be sure.
