And WHY does 'lisp' have an 's' in it?
Why is 'dyslexia' so hard to spell?

Think of it....the guy is sitting on msn (if there ever was such a thing when the word was invented), and all of a sudden he has to run. He has to quickly think of a word to describe why he has to run and in the rush presses a few other keys as he types the word....and that is where the word 'diaroeosiujjndoahuhjsdklahoea' originated! Lol!

It has such a beautful definition aswell: A morbidly frequent and profuse discharge of loose or fluid evacuations from the intestines, without tenesmus; a purging or looseness of the bowels; a flux

Apparently it dates back to 1398, from Old French, diarrie, from Latin diarrhoea, from Greek. diarrhoia "diarrhea" (coined by Hippocrates), lit. "a flowing through," from diarrhein "to flow through," from dia- "through" + rhein "to flow." Respelled 16c. from diarria on Latin model.

hmm.. i guess it's because diarrhoea itself is messy? many words follow the reality..for example, purr really sounds like the sound a kitten makes you know..

as we are on UK Answers, diarrhoea, is the correct spelling.
Which explains why it's a mess. Obviously, diarrhea is an attempt to clean it up.

diarrhea is the correct spelling.

its such a "messy" word to spell because of all the vowels it has in them; and the silent letter.
oh, and most people try to "sound it out"..
