Does anybody know the answer of Mickey's father, Walt Disney, about this mousy marriage issue?

During an interview in 1933 with Film Pictorial, Walt Disney said that «In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie... What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady.»

Two years later, Disney reversed his position on Mickey and Minnie’s marital status. «There’s no marriage in the land of make-believe,» Walt says. «Mickey and Minnie must live happily ever after.»

They are the eternal boyfriend and girlfriend couple of Disney's storytelling.

Note that the same applies to Donald and Daisy's relationship and not to human couples such as Cinderella and the prince, Aladin and Jasmine, Ariel and prince Eric, etc etc. These are not Disney's original "fabula" but tales inspired in already existing short stories with a happy ending, their marriage. Making their marriage happen would be a serious risk in ending (the interest in) their story. Unlike the Barbie and Ken couple (marriage + divorce was meant to modernize the classic doll couple), Disney's animal couples (mice, ducks, geese and dogs) remain innocent, that is, not married, always in love. The point is, I think, to stop time in their relationship (if if not in the surrounding scenario), and to create the illusion of non historical tale heroes.

I had an old comic book from when my mom was young that had Daisy and Donald ready to get married, she even had on a long white dress! He blew it, of course!! Time to pop the question and get them to stop being the oldest platonic relationships, (For the kiddies, ya know!), in history between boyfriends and girlfriends….or should I say mouse and duck friends?

i guess they have to remain dating for as long as Disney survives. cause if they marry each other their stories wouldn't be as interesting right? further more the future episodes will be filled with baby care and stuff. no one would want to hear that.
