I think I may be killing him slowly. Since I have been treating my fantails for fin rot and using ammo lock he has been really still. He barely ever moves and I never see him eat anything. I read somewhere that invertebrates can't withstand fish medications. Is this true? If so what can I do with Him? I don't want him to die like his brother :\ (he died last week)

also one of my fantails had red gills and the left gill started to go brown, now it's black and it's spreading all along both sides of her body, also the tips of her fins are black. Is she dying too? I asked at the pet store and they didn't know what it was. She was bright orange when I got her under 6 weeks ago.

Any help v appreciated. Thanks

From what you describe I think you have been doing water changes and not treating with dechlorinator. Chlorine inthe tap water is deadly for fish as it acts lke a bleach and burns the gills and skin of the fish. allways treat water with dechorinator before adding it to your aquarium.
The snail will be reacting to the copper based medicines that you have been using to treat for finrot or parasite on your fish, move him to a hospital tank with dechlorinated water and a carbon filter as this may help.
The fish may be too far gone if it is showing black patches on the body and brown gills instead of bright red.
I own pet pet store and care sheets are free on my site

Hello. Barney the Apple snail needs to move to his own little bowl for the time being you are treating the goldfish. The red gills are a bacteria infection. This bacterial infection has a standard name as bleeding gills, then it turns into a type of columinaris ( fungis) Caution that the goldfish isn't a calico and the color change is normal from youth to adult. However, it doesn't sound to be. There is a disease known as blackspot. Now the treatment.. It is difficult to locate quality pet stores that carry coppersafe and maroxy or maracyn 2. These are made by Mardel Labs. These are the most effective cures for bacterial diseases as well viral. I would also suggest getting some aquarium salt. This is available at WalMart in the pet section. It is called Doc Wellfish Aquarium Salt. It is sold in a pint box for about a dollar. Add the amount required for disease control. It is in a small white box made by aquarium pharmaceuticals.. I hope the best for you and good luck

Fish Medication often contains copper and this is lethal to snails.

You could try moving him to a tank with treatment free water, though it may be too late. There are some treatments that are snail friendly which may be worth looking into for future.

Not sure about the change in colour, sounds like a fungal infection. You may try taking the fish to show them in the petshop to get a better answer.
