'i could wear those, if i weren't so chubby.' and my man replied, 'you're not chubby, you're just short for your weight'. ....ladies...how would you take this...and men what would you mean by that comment??

As a male I would view that as a rude remark, and a subliminal suggestion. Studies have shown that communication is not so much about whats said, rather how it was said, body language, heart rate, pupil dilalation, voice tone...etc all play a key, without being there I cant accurately pass judgement.

The statement is mixed at best:
you're not chubby=you're not overweight
you're just short for your weight=a really nice way of saying you're overwight

Personally I would have responded with putting my finger on your lips saying Shhhh! and then kiss you on the forehead,
Or I would have found a clever way to devalue the skinny girls on TV with some comment like Oh how can she try to pull off that color?!!
either way your confidence wouldn't be shaken! Isn't that what a relashonship is about? helping to hold each other up?

Its funny how men and women seem to take 'weightial remarks' differently. Last week, my Dad asked me if I had lost some weight. I said, "for the amount that I've been running and going to the gym, you would think that I'd have lost some weight but I'm still the same." His reply - "Funny, you don't look as fat as you usually do." (-: I took it as a funny comment, it may or not be a compliment and I moved on. If I said that to pretty much any woman that I know, they may or may not find it funny but they'd definitely internalize it and find the negative.

I'm guessing that his comment had nothing to do with your level of 'chubbiness' but more the look and style of the dress. Tall thin people can wear one style and look fine. Shorter thin people wearing the same style sometimes look like children. Of course, I don't know him and I'm just guessing. And if I ever put my foot in my mouth and come here looking for a little defense, some guys better back me up like I'm doing here. (-:

you've got a man worth keeping. He loves you just the way you are.

In other words, a couple inches taller and you'd also look....anorexic.But instead, you look healthy and he loves that about you.
