Good question, Why bother, I think there ought to be a campaign, Consumerism is the problem, People are right, there is a form of conditioning with in the Media and advertising, which sends out a message," you don´t need this, but you want it" "also buy now pay later".
People are just suckers because they fall for it every time, The attitude of the media and also advertising Agencies to encourage us to spend money we don´t have, I mean how are people suppose to save for a pension when they are being encouaged to buy unneccessary items on Credit.
And people always over look the social fall ou from our Consumerist ways, which is Crime, Look to the US and the UK, I believe alot of crime has been the result of the the media and adverising, in that people do want things they can not afford, and so as it is their right to have these items then it is ok to steal or do what ever to get it.
You really do have turn the clocks back to the early 1900 s when people only really bought what they need, n outfit for work and an outfit for Church on a sunday, It was an American who realised the power of marketing and the fact it was tool for encouraging people to buy what they don´t need....
I mean how many pairs of shoes do you own ?
how often do you go out for retail therapy only to buy **** you don´t need, and when do people stop acquiring stuff ?
Don´t buy presents for xmas, buy then in the january sales if you really do feel the need, Do your self a favour and make an impact on the Economy, give Blair something to think on

Peer pressure to give the best presents at Christmas time, that and that everyone loses the plot and becomes psycho at xmas time
then we become psycho for the sales...
its a lose/lost situation ..
then we get the credit card bill ... ohhh dear ..

Because greed, materialism and commercialism have, sadly, taken over the "reason for the season".
Instead of concentrating on quality time with family and friends, people allow commercials and the joneses next door to dictate how they celebrate christmas.
As to why? Maybe the marketeers are smarter than us?

Because most people take Christmas time as their chance to make up with people that they've either pissed off, or have pissed them off. In the mad frenzy, these people feel guilty that the situation has got so stupid, and use a meaningless gift as a means of making up the rift.

I know, its the same with the food shopping at xmas, you'd think the shops were shut for a fortnight instead of two days.
Then you do it all over again for new year a week later.
