The lyrics,
I love a good beat, but if they are talking about worshipping nazis, I probably could care less if they are the most rhythmic band in the world.
You left out a lot of categories, but if I like the person performing the song, chances are I'll like their message.

Lyrics and then the beat. If it is good, the person preforming the song really doesn't make much difference.

I will have to say that beat generally catches my focus if I am listening to electronic music. But when I listening to Metal/Rock it is the artist and/or the lyrics that catches my attention. Of course there is the Rap genre which I focus mainly on the beat and the lyrics, because the artist to me has nothing to do with how good the song is to me.

I love a beat when I'm rowdy and want to dance. I love lyrics whenever they sing to whatever is in my soul at that moment or say something interesting in a way I haven't heard before.
I also love the instrumental mood.
If an artist can consistantly pander to any/all of those, then the artist becomes a factor.

With me, it is normally the same persons all the time. I have two female artists and a male artist I listen to. That way, I never worry about the beat and lyrics; they are always great..
