Masturbation is very normal. Let her know that every one does it. She's discovering her sexuality; and she was in the privacy of her room. Maybe you should knock before entering.

This is perfectly normal for a person of this age. They love to discover and explore themselves. Don't try to scare your daughter by shouting or complaining. Instead you should tell her
1. Its perfectly normal for girls of her age
2. If possible apologize for intruding into her privacy, and also assure that you would knock the door before coming to her room in future.
3. Try and open dialog on the topic. Make her comfortable talking by convincing her to the fact that it is normal and you being experienced would be able to resolve her doubts better than her friends of similar age. Consider this as an option, as this would ensure that she knows that she can come to you for any doubts; and need not to explore other sources which may not be always right.

There is no "problem" and thereis no way to "handle" it either. Being 16 and masturbating goes hand in hand with each other however, what would alarm most people is that you just "walked in to give her her lunch" remember mom, if you KNOW there is no boy in the house who would be getting intimate with your daughter...PLEASE stick to the 3 knock rule...(knowck 3 times WAIT FOR AN ANSWER, then walk in)

It's not a problem. It's normal and healthy behavour called masturbation. Both boys and girls do it. You never did it? Maybe you're the one with the problem. Definitely learn how to knock and respect your daughters privacy she's almost an adult treat her like it! If I were your daughter, I'd be so pissed at you for walking in without knocking! That's just plain rude.

I'd say your 16 yo daughter should get with your 12 yo daughter for some pointers. The younger one seems to have more experience with sex and could help the older one break the evil habit of masturbation and have a guy do it for her.
Sheesh, if you're going to troll, you should probably not ask more than one question per user name.

Are you serious? Yes it's normal to masturbate, it's not a problem and for heaven's sake the woman is 16, knock on the door before you go in. She deserves a little privacy.

Ummm, Mom. Were you not 16 once?. Didn't you ever explore your body at that age?. I know my 13yr old daughter felt the tickle at 2!. I had to endure seeing her hump that pure little bunny. I was told not to worry tho, she'll grow out of it, and she did!. It's normal Mom. Just DON"T make a big deal of it or your relationship with her is doomed

Sounds perfectly reasonable and normal to me.
I would suggest you ask her to keep her door locked in future, though, as it was probably pretty embarrassing for both of you, but I certainly wouldn't say anything more to her than simply to apologise for entering.

Why would you bring her lunch in her room?Especially if you heard these sounds? You'd better take your girl to a gyn as every female needs one & get her some birth control,,then in the future,,knock.
