ok, so my sister is trying to write a paper on why mentors (you know, older people who come in and work one on one w/ students) are good for students to have. if you have any stories on why it made you feel special or on how it helped you with school it would be GREATLY appreciated.

THANK YOU!!! =)

I didn't do very well in school and nobody helped any of the children in our family. We were forced to grow up very fast, to the point where getting a job was more important. I think it is important for teenagers to believe that they are smart. In the classes that I did do well in the teachers were exceptional. They sensed my dilemma and offered assurance. I am sure a mentor could form the same kind of bond as long as they were truly thinking about the outcome at stake and not their personal power struggle. It has been a long time but when I think about the teachers that were good, it seems like yesterday. I would keep posting this question or ones that are similar. How about people that really have made a positive impact on your life? Sometimes a little bit of good can erase years of agony.
