School is too structured today. Students used to have something called recess. They could run and play at different times during the day. Boys especially need to burn off all that excess energy. Then back in class there was more order. And because the students enjoy this free time, they don't want to lose it by acting up. Seriously, even prisoners get time in the yard!

I'm assuming you mean why are they noisy at school?

I'm a substitute teacher, so it's always noisy when I'm in a classroom because they think they can get away with it! But I think part of it is because of today's society, and especially TV and games, where everything is loud, constantly moving and dramatic and entertaining. Kids come to think this is normal and don't realize that quiet should be the norm. Also they sort of get addicted to that entertainment factor and anything that's not so entertaining seems boring. Then they lose interest, lose focus and start talking or acting out.

Then there is the fact that they're all together in a classroom and want to socialize and share their experiences - last night's basketball game, their dog died, etc. It's compounded in some families where parents don't have a lot of time to provide a listening ear for their kids, or there are no siblings to share with.

Some kids are just ADD or whatever and can't control themselves. Some come from a bad home environment and act out because they don't know how to deal with it.

Sometimes the teacher encourages it by her actions, intended or not. I really believe this, because I've been subbing for several years in my youngest daughter's school so I know the kids and teachers pretty well now, and certain teachers's classes are the worst every year, even when they get a good bunch of kids. And I've seen great teachers turn problem kids into good ones.

First graders are interested in everything. They love school (and their teachers!). They are excited about learning and eager to please. For them, school is a good time. But all this enthusiasm makes the classroom a noisy place. Five and six year olds can’t wait to share what they know. Answering before being called on happens frequently, but children aren’t being rude — they just haven’t learned the rules.

It's allways like that. When you start doing something you're noisy.. Like many musicians. You start with punk, rock or metal.. and as you grow, you finetune yourself. When you start your first relationship, you brag about it and make noise about it. It's just natural.. They're happy to be there, enjoing life.. don't worry they will quiet gradually quiet down.

Why not?! Don't you remember those days? Everything was new-you were excited to see your friends and they were excited to see you. You want to please the teacher and show him or her that you understand. They're passionate. Everything is a brand new experience and discovery! I'd be noisy too!
