I'm planning on going to NYC at the end of January - i've been watching the currency markets and have seen the dollar almost reach the magic $2.00 mark against the pound. Will the exchange rate get any better by the end of January or has it already peaked?

Years ago I made a tidy sum of money playing sterling against the dollar but I had taken the long term approach. It's much harder to predict to fluctuations short term. However, since the dollar weakness is a refelection of the troubled US economy, it is unlikely that the dollar will improve markedly any time soon. The rate will certainly fluctuate in both directions from now to January but only marginally. I don't beleive the Sterling will get any stronger soon.

It will fall in about a months time...

as it will be announched in the American budget that the dollar is doing better than expected, as America is trying to stave off an economic downfall.

If you plan to buy... buy in about 2 weeks time...
