Same way the US became a country 1776-1890...same way England became a country in 1066...same way Vietnam became a country, 1954-1975...same way the Roman Empire became a country...same way Turkey became a country, 1923...sometimes, nation-building isn't all diplomacy and democracy. Like it or not, there's often a military component to it. (And innocent people lose everything and get killed). Sad, bitter fact of life.

Very much so. Germany and Austria should have been made to cough-up some land. They had NO meaningful claim on that land and anyone with a hair's breath of sense saw what was coming. The fact is, the Europeans wanted rid of the Jews and didn't give a crap about what the Arabs thought of being moved.
