no, this drive only reads DVD. It writes CD, not DVD.

Read the specs here. as you can see it only reads DVD, not write dvd.

Absolutely not.
The RO in "8X DVD-ROM" means read only.
Look for a unit that says DVD-RW (Read/Write).
One more thing ... please consider getting an external USB DVD burner instead of an internal notebook device. They are very fragil & overpriced. Another advantage is that you can hook up the external device to any PC you want....very convenient for transfering a large amount from one PC to another ... even though most all new PCs today come with a DVD burner.
