In this day and age it can and it will. Hell alot of women now prefer to be the aggressive workers rather than the guy.
Now of course it all depends on the person, out of 35 years have you ever tried initiating her assisterd efforts or pushed the idea of her being part of the process rather than being the human blow up doll?
Some women are givers some are just takers....only way to change that is through compromise and communication. Course it's kinda late in the game man, if that didn't happen earlier then what da hell happened?

Well you could try not initiating sex with her and see if she jumps on you. You may have to wait a long time. If you got married when she was 20 then she is 55 and maybe she's not that interested anyway. Maybe she isnt particularly enjoying it - how would you know. Do you ask her? Is it obvious?
You've left it rather late to get her to do stuff to you! Most women who like sex dont wait to be asked! My bet is that she's not that bothered if she has it or not.

If you have waited 35 years to suggest she do a little of the bedroom work you might have left it a bit late...maybe start with a few books on positions or karma sultra sexual stuff get some potions lotions and toys and spice it up BTW try having sex earlier I hate it when it's relay late and I'm beat and my husband expects the energizer bunny geeze the batteries r flat.

Is she really enjoying it? Or is she just wishing you would hurry up and finish so she can get some sleep. If she was having fun she would want to get more involved in the whole thing
