a social misfit could be described as someone with counterculture, this by definition is....... a culture, especially of young people, with values or lifestyles in opposition to those of the established culture....by this definition the people on this site are not "misfits" in today's society and culture this is what the youth does, and for all the adults.... we are just trying to make our jobs go by a little faster

Answer this! could you conceivably have these conversations down the Pub with anyone friend?
My answer would be no, because conversations down the pub would focus on either football or work.
I do have a lot of friends but none are into Philosophy, politics, religious debates etc etc.
I do not believe that anyone is a social misfit if they are talking to new people everyday, that in my mind is being sociable.
There are more social misfit that sit next to one on a bus who never start any conversation, nor even share eye contact.
So maybe the Internet is an extension of social lives and not a substitute.
For those people who have little social contact, they are not misfits but just lonely, and loneliness is not a crime nor a stigma.

I think there are all kinds of people on here not just the misfits. I just have a liking for answering questions and I have a 1/2 hour free. Im using my other free time for that "better stuff"

What is a social misfit? Someone who is not the same as you ,dose not look like you, or the opposite ? Two policemen in a room and one criminal who is the misfit?
Two criminals in a room and one policeman who is the misfit? A misfit isn`t always the same person, it depends who he is compared to and how many, and under what circumstances. A rich man in a ghetto, a poor man in a palace? What if there are several rich men in the ghetto and several poor men in the palace? Their numbers change their situation.
I think it is fairer to say that Yahoo is a magnet for different people from different backgrounds, different education levels, different races ,and gender
all to be drawn to-gether for the purpose of the exchange of ideas, views and thoughts, because they want to get to know each other better and to understand each other better. If that is what you call a `misfit`,then I am proud to be called one.

Of course people who ARE social misfits won't agree with you.
But do you seriously think that the thousands of people who do this stuff are ALL social misfits?
Maybe SOME social misfits like doing this, some who are not social misfits just wanna get answers and answer questions, and maybe the rest of the people are just bored.
