For me, I really, really like The Law of Ueki so much! Gosh! I'm going crazy over it. I did learned some lessons from it, though it is an action-packed anime. I'll also go for Naruto. Though Naruto is full of a never ending fillers, I still like it!

I absolutely recommend Ruronin Kenshin. I mean, if you like adventure, bloody raw samurai fights, psychological deepness and comical moments, it's all there. He is hitokiri battousai, the raging samurai without a master (ronin), but also just a young men trying to find some peace of mind, and maybe love. You can find in the first ova movie the story of how he got a cross scar in the face.
You can find the anime TV episodes and the ova movies for free in youtube. Oh, and of course there is also the original manga collection.

I like Trigun, it's got a little action, it's got drama, and it is hilarious.
The action involve some gunslinging
drama is all the bad things that happen to the lead character who is really a good guy
funny, the lead is hilarious, he makes people think, "is he really serious"
