This is a difficult one to answer because it appears you've narrowed it down to one line of 3 offense and 2 defense. Why are we allowed a backup goalie but not more than one line?

I would have to agree with most of the answers on here as good ones though.

Being from Pittsburgh I'd have to go with Gretzky and Howe centered by Mario.

Defense would probably be Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr but Paul Coffey with Bobby Orr and that front 3 of yours or mine would be devastating until the other team got the puck against Coffey. Then Paul would have to play defense which he wasn't really known for especially since he couldn't stop on those flat blades of his.

Roy and Brodeur sure our good choices for netminder along with Sawchuck, Cheevers, Vezina, and the list goes on and on.

Goalies are tough to pick for that too just like players because none of them wore helmets in old time hockey.

I think it would have been interesting to see Scotty Bowman and Herb Brooks coach a team together.

Wayne Gretzky, flanked by Gordie Howe on rw and Bobby Hull on left. On defence, Bobby Orr, of course and although I sure wouldn't be ashamed to vote for Paul Coffey, I gotta go with Doug Harvey. In goal (the hardest), Terry Sawchuck with Patrick Roy backing him. Martin Brodeur will eventually pass both of them if he hasn't already. Sorry Glenn (Hall).

F Gretzky- He's not "The Great One" for nothing
F Howe- Got both skills and toughness
F Lemieux- Amazing moves, don't know what can happen when he's with Gretzky (refer to 1987 Canada Cup)

D Orr- Simply the best D-man ever
D Bourque- Offensive-minded defenseman, but can take care of his own end too

G Roy- 551 career wins should tell you something
G Sawchuk- Most shutouts (103)

Not sure why a starting lineup would need a backup at goalie. My ultimate lineup would be players I love not necessarily the best of all-time so:
G--Tony Esposito
D--Bobby Orr
D--Ray Bourque
C--Mario Lemieux
RW--Cam Neely
LW--Bobby Hull

You've got pretty much what I would have. Only I may have Messier instead of Hull and Roy starting instead of Sawchuck. Messier and Gretzky on the same line is killer.
