They only do this on small boats that don't have a a dedicated swim platform or entry ramp. It would be very difficult to jump over the edge of a small boat with all the weight of the equipment on a small boat, so they enter back first to just fall into the water.

do mean they dive in facing backwards? when divers enter they generally are in a a streamline position vertically. what do you mean exactly?

Because they are afraid of water. They have Agua-phobia.
