example: if robinhood robs the rich to help the poor, he's definitely legally wrong, but is he also morally wrong??

Yes, absolutely you can be morally right and be doing something illegal. sometimes to do the morally right thing you have to do something illegal, like Martin Luther King and the freedom fighters during hte civil rights protest period. To oppose racism and segregation they had to peacefully break the laws.

i think robin hood is a little outdated, but i see what your getting at. Its like John Q, he held people hostage at the hospital to save his sons life.

I think there definatly is a grey area between legal right and morally right... in the end it all comes down to perspective.

Like with the Rich, their obviously going to see Robin Hood as morally wrong, But the Poor will believe that it's right...

In the end it's kind of sad.... people dont' know the difference between wrong and right becasue everyone has different views about it

I realy love that question, and i think the example that you give proves that you already have a clue of the answer.
Precisely I think you right, because someone can have much money but dosen't know how to use it, by taking that money to help poor or sickness people, you feel so great to see a problem solve by that robbery, life can even change, you do a great job but after all robbery is robbery, for what ever for the causeyou did it.

No a person can not be legally wrong but morally right. Because morals go hand in had with following the law. It is wrong for robin hood to steal to begin with which makes his actions legally wrong and morally wrong. The ends do not justify the means. that saying is basically that a person can not say to themselves oh I am doing what is right and good by STEALING and giving to the poor. Also, the Lord established the authorities over us in earth for us to obey them and follow the laws set by them.

Yes and No. Is it legal to speed your spouse to the hospital when she is in advanced labor? No, is it morally wrong? Of course not. So given the example of Robin Hood, it is legally wrong but morally correct because he never kept any of the money. Would it have helped him in the court? Nope, he'd have his head chopped off anyway.

Definitely. And what's up with the crazed religious freak's answer? That's insane. That means every time a law changes our morals change. And they are ALWAYS right and ALWAYS in god's plan? Haha. Psycho.

Seriously, why is Yahoo Answers so completely full of insane religious nuts?

One can be legally wrong and morally right, but nevertheless, I don't advise breaking the law.

Some people make a conscious decision to non-violently break a law that they find immoral, this is called "civil disobedience".

This could be morally right, do you know why? Becuase all laws used by humans are man made, they are not perfect ones, and there are always holes in man-made things.

So, sometimes legal laws will prevent you from doing bad things (from law perspectice), but these things are morally right!!!

in the robin hood stories the poor are agrarian serfs -- so they are getting back money made from their work which would make robin hood morally good. conversly police beating and tasering people to get them to submit is legally ok but morally wrong.
