I have been done for nuisance calls loads of times, but I had a thought - is there anything they can do if I answer the phone with either torrents of abuse, or a bit of heavy breathing, maybe?
If they call me, it's hardly harrassment, is it?

My dad has a great little number he pulls on those telemarketers. He begins by asking them their name and what theri business is with the person they have just called. He then identifies himself as Detective Superintendent Bloggs and informs them that there is a murder inquiry taking place at this house and he would like the caller to answer some further questions to eliminate them from the inquiry.
They usually beat a hasty retreat.

When random callers like double glazing people phone me I answer trying to be totally thick or make out im in the middle of cooking and keep them waiting for five minutes then go off again... i enjoy it as it wastes there time and they dont phone again

An easier thing to do would be to join the telephone preference service www.tps.com and you will be on the list. No one is allowed to cold call you if you are on this list so sign up - unless you actually want to abuse people on the phone.....

I hope not,I do it all the time.Especially when they try to sell me phones,new kitchens,insurance etc etc.The best way to combat it I've found is to say to them I am busy right now can you give me your home phone number and I'll call you back to which they always say sorry Mrs but I can't,I then reply well don't f**king call mine then T**T bleep bleep bleep

Yes but then people stop calling you and then the only ones who call you are the unsolicited ones like telemarketers etc.
