i think something opposite to broadband

Narrowband (narrow bandwidth) refers to a signal which occupies only a small amount of space on the radio spectrum — the opposite of broadband or wideband.

it is the amount of data transmitted accross the network cable internet would give you wide band dsl can give both narrowband aand wideband statalite is nearly all narrowband
now here is the gist of it
some ISP will only let you download 250 meg a day some even less so if you want to download 2 gig of movie it would take two weeks to download, cable is wide band no limit on download with some ISP so the 2 gig would take 12 hrs to download
so you have wide and narrow band widths
