I believe that I have read that you can use melatonin for jet lag. What can you tell me about this?

Please answer questions like these:
Is it true that melatonin can help with jet lag?
Is it readily available for purchase, and if so, where?
How should it be used?
etc.

2.yes ifs readily available you can go to wal-mart or any drug store should carry it
3.directions are included, but if I remember, a little will work for 1 and a lot will work for someone else.

What works for me when flying from Montreal to Indonesia is, as soon as I get on the first plane (of 4) I change my watch to the final destination time, and tell myself that that is the real time (there's a 12 hour time difference). This is a very important step for me. Then, it is important to function within the new time frame. This means, sleep only when it is night at your destination, even if everyone is sleeping in the plane and it's totally dark. Conversely, try to sleep even if everyone is eating and it's completely light. Or, eat fast and go to sleep as soon as you can. I usually use the 'do not disturb' signs in the plane, because if you don't and it's time to eat the flight attendant will tap you on the shoulder and wake you up! I usually have a few glasses of wine to further knock myself out. Follow the same sleeping rules during stopovers. I think the best way to control your body to sleep whenever you tell it to is to get very little sleep the night before so that your body is always ready to sleep at anytime: this will help ensure that when it is time to sleep, you will not have any trouble. Your body is so knocked off kilter that it no longer has any idea when it should be sleeping; so, you take control. Finally, at your destination, your body is probably extremely exhausted, but only sleep when it's time to go to bed, and get 8-12 hours of sleep. This is also an absolutely crucial step. Have somebody wake you up if necessary. I went to bed at 8:00pm and got up at 6am the next day and never felt the 12 hour time difference. Note that this method is not difficult, but it is really not fun because you are seriously unbalancing yourself. But the payoff is more than worth it. My wife, flying with me but listening to her body the whole time, was jet lagged for ever 3 weeks. Mtl-Indonesia is a long flight but I see no reason why this method couldn't work with shorter flights too.

It's used as a sleep aid, so I don't think it's going to help with jet lag. Places like Walmart, K-mart, Target.....will have it.

Yes it is effective for treating jet lag and it also an excellent alternative to sleeping pills to help you sleep at night. It is made of all natural organic herbs and not habit forming yet it is effective.
You can buy it at must drug stores and practically every health store.

melantonin is a natural chemical released by your brain. You can purchase it probably from a health shop, or the internet. I think its expensive. I dont know how it would help with jetlag but i know it does help you sleep. Its like natural sleeping pills. I dont know if this has helped at all. Good luck

I've never noticed it works... I travel extensively, but those pills are totally useless to me.
The only thing that works is to make sure you travel well rested, that you catch up on sleep on the plane (depending on air time...), and that you stay in daylight (better, in the sun) once you arrive. Go to the beach!! that is the best cure.

i take melatonin fairly frequently. i buy it at walmart, walgreens, etc. Different people need different doses. I take 9 mgs about an hour before i need to be asleep. if i wake up 3 hrs later (which happens frequently) i take about 6 mgs more.

Hey,, it works very good,, and will not leave you groggy,, it just makes you sleepy... is all... take a couple tables before you get on the plane,,, or after,,, and sleep your way across... it cuts out the drag of lag time... lol
