universities have been turned into tech schools. the cirriculum has been changed entirely. 30 yrs ago everyone took classes on ethics and critical thinking. today they take marketing and weight lifting. i worked at a state university where students were dumb enough to brag about their lack of education (like "im a marketing graduate student and i have never been in the library!"). in turn businesses are starting to say enough is enough. people can't even write literate emails.
