I find that using an old toothbrush and some mild toothpaste, or a little bit of baking soda made into a paste, works just as well as anything. Silver cleaner won't harm it, but this seems to polish gold up pretty well.

I doubt it very much ; silver jewelry should not even come into contact with gold, as far as I know, because the gold will tarnish.

hummmm depends.... if you are trying to remove tarnish from your silver I WOULD NOT use silver cleaner on my gold. A mild gold cleaner would be best.
