Use the proxy information in the Firefox browser setting.
(By Default) if you are using IE then installing FireFox, it prompts you to load the proxy settings from IE.

If you go into your main connections on your computer, uncheck the proxy server button, and also do it on the firefox. Then you will not have a problem, it will not reroute to proxy.
Tools, connections,Lan settings and in the box (proxy) do not put
"X" or check. Do the same on firfox. I think it is a drop down menu - uncheck proxy server.

What's the exact error message?

Try this: choose Tools->Options...
- If using a very recent Firefox, click Advanced, then Network tab, then Settings... button.
- With older Firefox, click General, then Connection Settings... button
In the dialog box that appears, make sure "Direct connection to the internet" is selected.
Click Ok
Try loading a well known page (i.e. yahoo.com) again.
