Use ice. Make the gum cold and rigid by placing the ice cube on it and holding it there for a few minutes. Once it has hardened, peel it off. Repeat as necessary until all the gum is gone.

Use De-Solv-It. It actually dissolves the gum right before your eyes. Don’t spray directly on carpet. It is best to spray on a cloth and work it through the gummy area. When it is completely gone, go over the area with water to remove the De-Solv-It.

If an ice cube doesn't work you can buy an aerosol commercial product at Home Depot or Lowe's that freezes gum and allows you to easily remove it from carpet.

Try GoofOff or GooGone.
They romove adhesives without damaging things.
Maybe it will work for gum.
