we are about to move across country and since the first time we put him in a carseat our 14 month old has despised it! Once buckled in he screams and cries like he is getting attacked. It's a new and very confortable carseat with lots of cushion for him and perfectly safe. How can I calm my child down for this long trip from CA to NC?

Unfortunately, his tantrums should not even be a discussion. Have you had him the car seat long enough for him to get used to it? Most toddlers will have this problem. You must not allow his yelling and screaming to affect your judgement in his safety. He doesn't know better. You do. Strap him in, give him some toddler treats, and start your driving. If he starts his tantrum turn on the radio and you will have to learn to ignore it. Eventually the lull of the car will quiet him maybe even put him to sleep. Happy Driving.

You are going to have to break him of that. Or he won't be able to go to school. They have to learn to sit still. Your first mistake was allowing him to not ride in the car seat in the first place. Around here you will be stopped and ticketed for an unrestrained child. It is for your own good. Shot my grand-daughter tells me now to buckle up before driving.

It is just something you are going to have to put with. It is either that or him not in a car seat at all and of course you dont want that.

Try having an adult sit in the back seat with him. He might be lonely with just him the back seat or just him and another child.

Use distractions as mentioned above, limit the time in the car seat, put the car seat in the home for him to sit in voluntarily as his special seat. Once you've done everything you can do you just let him scream. As long as you are not reacting constantly he will calm himself. If he gets attention every time he screams he will keep it up. Kids figure us out faster than we can figure them out.

My son likes to throw suits in his vehicle seat each now and lower back besides, even on short journeys. i discover making a song to him often helps yet not consistently. i attempt to determine he has some toys to play with and at night I have been given a type of small analyzing lighting fixtures from the dollar keep so as that he can nonetheless see, basically confirm to clip it the place it fairly is basically not on your view. this is gotten extra suitable on condition that we switched to the convertible vehicle seat quite of the newborn provider. He sits up plenty greater and might see out the window. even though if now and lower back I basically could permit him cry till he cries himself to sleep. as quickly as he found out that his crying wasn't going to get the vehicle stopped he does not do it almost as in lots of cases. stable luck!

Give him lots of toys to play with. Try getting a DVD player, so that he can watch lots of movies. My son is only seven months and hates being straped in his car seat also.

practice riding on short trips with him rewarding him when he is quiet with a favorite toy, a small piece of his favorite food (candy is usually the best) sit in the back with him. he probably is having problems with not being able to see you and feel you. sing with him in the seat. you may even take it out of the car and unbuckle it and have it in the living room for him to sit at while watching tv (unbuckled) praise him for sitting in it.

Make sure HE feels comfortable. Double check that the belt isn't too tight or that something else isn't poking him (even if it looks ok to you).
If it's ok then I agree with the others who suggest giving him his fave snacks, a tv and his fave toys.

New toys, snacks, sitting next to him if possible. He is young yet, but if he watches some TV, then a portable TV/DVD player would work great.
