1. There are so many patients with an unusual constellation of signs and symptoms that bring up such numerous and obscure diagnoses which the doctor team just can't seem to narrow down without initiating an improbable combination of diagnostic tests and "empirical treatments."

2. Where on earth do residents / fellows / attendings act as jack-of-all-trades: they manage the patients, do the CT scans, do the laboratory assays, and even get to play CSI and make personal visits to patient's houses to look for whatever substance may have caused the patient's condition?

3. And where in the modern world are doctors allowed to act like House without getting slapped with a major lawsuit???

I know it's fiction, but come on. It's just too ridiculous to be taken seriously...

I totally agree. Hugh Laurie gives a good performance, but the show is beyond stupid.

Besides the things you mentioned, they apparently skip some very standard, routine tests that would have put them on the right track earlier on.

Oh, yeah. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

You're right, it's fiction all right.
But, for some reason, as much of a pompous, pill popping *** House is, for some reason - most of us like him.
Another bullet point for you - Just how "great" are they as diagnosticians? Have you ever noticed how many wrong diagnoses, not to mention expensive, invasive and painful procedures the patients endure before the "ta-da" correct diagnosis. Insurance companies would refuse to reimburse the hospital for all those tests - and House would have been hauled before the review board too many times to count.
Still, I do enjoy the show. And I'm a nurse..............

I do not get it, watched it a couple of times for a few minutes, but for hating it, you sure know a lot of detail.

It is like the joke,

One lady tells another lady in a rest home, "the food here is horrible, the lady replies," yeah", the first lady says, "and the portion are so small". lol

Personally...I LOVE it!! I think it is fabulous. True, it is far-fetched, but, then again, aren't ALL the shows on TV like that? Especially the crime drama ones. (But, I must confess, I am a HUGE fan!) I mean, my whole famiy is in the medical field and we still love it. So, in my opinion HOUSE is great.
