Many of the generic foods are manufactured by the makers of branded foods. I know this from experience in buying from factory shops the overmakes and battered tins. Generic wheat "biscuits" breakfast cereal are indistinguishable from, say, the branded product. The same goes for jams, pickles, baked beans, coffee, etc.. One only has to think of how many baked bean factories there would be if each supermarket had it's own brand specially manufactured for it.

I like both. Some things are better brand name. But most of the time you can't tell a difference.

Yes generic brands are mostly the same there might be a slight difference but you are not paying for all the pretty pictures on the boxes, just for the food inside which is just as appetizing as the dearer ones

I can tell the difference. I usually buy the name brand. I have found you pay for quality. But when you are on a budget and I used to be, generic tastes just fine.

Some generics are better but most are not. I think it's funny how the generic will try to look like the name brand and even steal some of the name. Safeway is the worst at that.

Yeah like the other guy said, it depends on the food. For instance I have never been able to tolerate generic cereal. It just tastes different. Same thing with peanut butter, nothing but JIF. Most other things I'm pretty cool with, especially if it's just something to cook with i.e. milk, ground beef, hamburger helper, etc. Heck I even buy generic sodas to save money.

For certain things, generic brands are just as good. Some examples that come to mind are paper towel, tissue paper, and certain cleaning products. There are many other examples, I just can't think of them now!

It depends. On stuff like steak sauce you can but regular mustard or ketchup there's no difference. Also the cheaper cereal is just as good as the name brands. But I have to have real coca-cola I can't drink stuff like RC or just cola.
