Well you can go to hott free myspace layouts.com I've gotten many layouts there and I haven't had a problem. I don't know if you can be completly sure if you're safe or not.

You could use a website like http://www.hermyspacelayouts.com to get a code for a layout you like. I always use them and there are no viruses or pop ups.

The same way you do anything else without the risk of viruses. You don't unless you have a good virus detector already on your computer.
