I was skeptical of this but I saw an Oprah show years ago about a girl with 80-some personalities. She changed personalities on stage during the show and it was very creepy. She wrote a book called "when rabbit cries" and keeps a journal to communicate among her personalities. She was married and had 2 kids I think. Her "illness" was caused by severe abuse at the hands of her step-father. It was very disturbing. I tried to read her book but I couldn't. It was too horrible. Her step-father raped her when she was a baby and that is when her first personality "split". She calls her rabbit because she can't speak but cries like a rabbit does when you kill one. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself. I must say that this was YEARS ago, maybe 15? I remember it because it was so shocking.

Ah, it's controversial. And it is definitely NOT schizophrenia. Although it is a purportedly rare disorder, some therapists seem to get dozens of cases of them, while others will never see a single case in their entire lives. The concept of multiple personality is quite popular, however--as depicted in movies such as "The Three Faces of Eve."
And, the classification was changed from Multiple Personality Disorder to Dissociative Identity Disorder in the DSM. Even the concept of "multiple personalities" is in doubt. It's a complex issue.
So technically, yes, there is a type of "split personality" that is classified as DID. But there has been quite a bit of argument about whether it is a valid disorder or not.

It's not actually called split personality anymore it is called dissociative personality disorder. There are some people, very few, that have been documented with this condition. Mostly its a highly disputed psychological disorder in which a person exhibits two or more disassociated personalities, each functioning as a distinct entity.
So the theory is that something triggers a person with this disorder and instead of dealing with what triggered them, another personality comes out to deal with it and to defend the first personality. The other personalities could be; a small child, an aggressive adult, a timid adult, etc, depending on what this person's conscious thinks it needs to protect itself.

the term for the disorder now is disassociative personality disorder. There is speculation that it does not exist. It is currently listed in the Diagnostic Statistacal manual IV-TR (the latest version) there is a lot of speculation because memories can be implanted. Ususally the person is unaware of the other personalities. They usually present to psychologists with gaps of memory loss (when one of the other personality took over) the gaps are too large to be accounted for by normal forgetfulness. The recent increase in diagnosing this disorder is due to increased media converage of those who have been diagnosed, as well as criminals trying to esacape the law in court.

Kind of. It's called Dissassociative Disorder. You can get it in degrees. It happens when you feel really guilty for something (often it's not even your fault, but sometimes it is) and your head shuts off because it can't deal with it. So it just switches to another defense mechanism which looks like another personality. Do you know when you change? Maybe a little deep down, but not entirely. You can deal with it by dealing with the underlying guilt feelings.People around people with this sort of problem need to handle it gently. The last thing they need is anger and blame because that will worsen guilt feelings and make it worse. But when they are calmed down they do need to deal with the truth. And they do need to take responsibility for the things that they do in the different "personalities" in a healthy way.

It does exist. Multiple personality disorder, a neurosis in which the personality becomes dissociated into two or more distinct parts each of which becomes dominant and controls behavior from time to time to the exclusion of the other parts.

And they do not know that they change into someone else. At least two personalities must routinely take alternate control of the individual's behavior, and there must be a loss of memory that goes beyond normal forgetfulness. This memory loss is often referred to as "switching". These symptoms must occur independently of substance abuse or a general medical condition.

There is different levels of conscious. 1. Conscious, your current mind. 2. Subconscious, which transfers information between your soul and human brain, and 3. the Inner Being your soul. You cannot possibly unlock all levels of conscious less you want to go crazy unless you are very highly, spiritually advanced. Your soul contains countless eons of information that no ordinary being can handle or even understand. I suppose your conscious mind and subconscious are interacting and getting mixed up... This helps you better understand, however I hope you understand this is one of the few subjects I am not well versed with and I can not help you.

it exists ..... it is a psycological thing where your mind can create an alter ego to cope with psycological pain..... schizo
and whether they realise they change, maybe .... it can depend on the person and how their mind has chosen to implement the illness..... it could be that they kno but a trait of the alter egos is denial, they might just be bipolar and are hiding it behind schizo., or they have no clue or sometimes, having different sets of memories, more commonly, there is a third and middle alter ego which is a mediator.....
