3x - 2 = 4
add 2 to both sides
3x = 6
divide both sides by 3
x = 2

Q = 3/4x - 1/2 = 1
3/4x = 1 + 1/2
3/4x = 3/2
3x = 3/2*4
3x = 3*2
3x = 6
x = 6/3
x = 2
verification
= 3/4 * 2 - 1/2 x = 2
= 6/4 - 1/2
= 1.5 - 0.5
= 1

Christy K is absolutely correct. The answer is 2 and that is the way that the problem should be solved. According to a math professor.
Check your answer: x=2
3/4x - 1/2 = 1
3/4 (2) -1/2=1
3/4(2/1) -1/2=1
6/4 -1/2=1
6/4 - 2/4 =1
4/4 = 1

3/4x- 1/2 =1
3/4x = (1+(1/2))
In this step I am trying to get x by itself and to do that I need to first get rid of the 1/2. To so that I move it to the other side and when I do that I need to change is sign from -1/2 to +1/2.
4/3(3/4x)= (1.5)4/3
In this step I am multiplying by the reciprocal of 3/4 so that I can get rid of the 3/4. And remember when multiplying and dividing what you do to one side you have to do to the other. So, I multiplied the other side by the reciprocal too.
x= 2
now you have x by itself and you just multiply 1.5 times 4/3 and you get 2.

Please use parentheses to clarify the question.
If you meant (3/4)x - 1/2 = 1 then
(3/4)x - 1/2 = 1
(3/4)x = 1 + 1/2 = 3/2
x = (3/2)*(4/3) = 2
If you meant 3/(4x) - 1/2 = 1 then
3/(4x) - 1/2 = 1
3 - (4x)(1/2) = 4x
3 = (4x)(1 + 1/2) = (4x)(3/2) = 6x
1/2 = x

I'm pretty sure x is 2
cause
3/4 by 2 would equal 1, 1/2
so 1,1/2 minus 1/2 would leave 1.
I hope thats right.
