I wouldn't per say suggest a chiropractor just because of my husbands previous experience with his herniated disk. The visit to the chiropractor only made it worse. Chiropractors are great for regular adjustments though. My other half has a herniated disk in the lumbar region of his back. He spoke to his regular physician and then was referred to a neurosurgeon who in turn sent him to a pain specialist where he got injections in his back, they were rather wild to watch but it really helped with the herniation, and with time it started to get better. I don't know that it's 100% better or that it will ever be back to 100% but it's certainly better than it was, he was getting where he couldn't even stand, he'd limp to get around & was in excruciating pain. Since the two visits to the pain specialist he's been fine and not had to return back to the doctor. It's been about 5-6 months now. Mind you the 1st shot was about 8 months ago. So it all really depends on how you feel, and it really just takes time. They may suggest some stretching exercises as well. Hang in there and get well soon!!

I would suggest you find a doctor of Chiropractic who puts most of the burden on you. When there is a low back problem, there is also unequal muscle tension on either side of the spine.. This allows some degree of scoliosis to develop.. forcing the disc to one side and applying pressure to the nerve roots of that side. The shorter of those muscles must be stretched out to regain some semblance of balance of the musculature. That is what you must do at home to allow the corrections to stay longer. Those unequal muscles will often have reversed the treatment by the time you have gotten home... is why the stretching is so important. If there is herniation, the doctor will advise you. But you give no indication of that being the case.
