Because i tried to think about it, but even babe ruth for 100,000 dollars in cash to the Yankees is only one player... and Portland taking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan is again one player, as is like Lou Brok being traded from the Cubs to St.Louis for Ernie Broglio...its one player a team scrwed up on... but if Leinart, young, and Bush all go on to have the careers that we all think they are, Houston, omg! HOUSTON.. talk about BONEHEADED decisions. LOL

The Name of the Player houston took is Mario Williams, a Deensive End, who i think will be very good in a few years...but normally elite DE's take a good 2 to 3 years to develop. the guys like Julius Peppers and Jason Taylor and Deacon Jones, who are awesome right out of college are RARE... I think Houston needs new management.

JohnC...below

Noone is saying we should elevate Young, Bush and Leinart to HOF status in their first years.... but what im saying is that if it isnt clear to everyone that all three would have been better picks than Mario Williams, then really, you are not paying attention. Then throw in that they cant fill their stadium, and one of the only times they do is when vince young, A home town houston HS football folk hero comes back to beat them... Im not elevating the three players, but houston i think will go down as making three of the worst mistakes in history of NFL in not taking atleast one of those guys.

Yes for a lot of reasons... but to me the obvious reason is this...

Love it or hate it, people don't pay money to go to NFL games to see Defensive lineman play. The Texans haven't had a marquee player to put the butts in the seats. People aren't lining up to see David Carr quarterback...let's be real. Even if Vince Young, Matt Leinart, or Reggie Bush do not have hall of fame careers no one can question that those 3 guys are guarunteed to boost revenue and attendance just based on their potential.

The Texans completely blew it this year with the draft. To pass up 3 offensive franchise players for a Defensive End who really hasn't made anything close to the type of impact you'd expect a 1st overall pick to make is just sad.

Mario Williams. I mentioned it from the day he became into drafted. he's going to be a corridor of recognition participant. He form of jogs my memory of Reggie White the way he assaults the line. The Texans have been clever to not draft Bush. Bush is purely not something greater suitable than a glorified slot receiver who dances too lots interior the backfield and could't hit the hollow complicated sufficient because of the fact he's purely too small. i might say Vince could have the 2d terrific after slightly greater artwork. he will in all likelihood on no account be a correct passer, yet that is not his interest. He runs it. Leinart will in all likelihood be the worst (even however i assumed he may well be lots greater helpful than he's). He looks like he hasn't superior in any respect because of the fact that he became into drafted, which granted became into basically a 365 days and a nil.5 in the past, yet nonetheless.

I'm a big believer in picking linemen higher in the draft than usual, but Houston did go a little too far. It sure seemed like if they wanted to draft a DE first, they could have traded down at least, and let one of the other teams get the #1 choice. And then Houston could have at least gotten another #2 pick or something. A wasted opportunity.

A girl asking this question. That's much respect for you right there. I don't know how cute you are in real-life but your avatar looks pretty cute! LOL. Yes, passing on Young, Leinart and Bush were the worst moves, or should I say DUMBEST moves ever in sports. Being in Texas, I think these guys were Dairy Queens managers trying to run a football team.

Yeah, you pointed out a lot of boneheaded moves by some franchises. I think the Texans surprised everybody when they took...I dont even know his name to be honest with you. And I don't even think that he is all that good. But, that's why these scouts get paid the big bucks....

Not even close...IMO The Herschel Walker trade has that honor.

One season doesn't make a career...maybe it isn't wise to put these people up on a pedestal and enshrine then into the HOF just yet. Plenty of one year wonders have come and gone and they were way better players than the 3 you mentioned.

Absolutely no doubt about it. The Texans will not live this one down *ever* for all of their existence.

(Even if they ceased to be a team, somewhere down the road, this drafting faux paux will forever be quoted in sports history!)

You are so right. If they have a championship in another year or two then I'll admit they knew what they were doing.
