Bi-xenon as used on Porsche, Audi, VW and Nissan are excellent. The low beam cuts off sharply so that you don't irritate other drivers and the high beam is unbelievable since they use xenon for both. Older systems had projector xenon low beams and conventional high beams. Putting xenon bulbs in regular lights is a very unfriendly thing to do to other motorists. Then again retrofitting a set of bi-xenon headlights to a Passat B5.5 costs upwards of $1k.

The best way is always to do a retrofit. This way you get the optics and not just the really bright bulbs. If you just buy bulb+ballast+ignitor, it is cheap, but doesn't usually look right. Also, stick with 4-5K bulbs. The blue ones are illegal and they don't fool anyone into thinking you have a BMW.

If you DO want to fool people, try www.retro-solutions.com. They will hook you up with Bosch projectors that look purplish from the side and white in front. People on a newsgroup I read seem to like the quality of their work.

They all suck!

Great, you can see better and look cool. I can't see a bloody thing. Normal high-beams are dimmer.
