Plato's myth of the cave involves people who are tied down for their whole lives in a dark cave watching shadow puppets on the wall and believing the shadows are reality. It is only when they are brought out of the cave and into the light of day that they can understand what reality truly is.

Education is a way of bringing people out of the cave and into the light so they can cast of the superstitions and fictions of cave life in order to gain a better understanding of reality.

I presume you are discussing Plato's "cave".
The lesson of Plato's cave is that while ideals exist, they exist beyond our grasp, all that we can grab and use are flawed shadows of those ideals.

In education, believing this means that any attempt to give the students copies of our shadows is futile, because of the flawed nature of the shadows themselves.
However, if we can get the students to realize that there are ideals, to look for those ideals themselves, to understand that the shadows are flawed, and that each person has to find the shadows that work best for him or her, education becomes much more like serving food to a hungry person than attempting to force-feed a prisoner.
