obviously I don't know anything about computers. My laptop fan is working really hard and my laptop is getting really warm...and its making a lot of noise. I looked at my computer and the "CPU"s are at 100%. What does that mean? It makes this noise when I'm playing a game, and it makes it when I'm not doing anything at all!!

Hi,

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. The CPU handles mostly everything it calculates and processes all the programs in your pc. It's like an engine of a car i guess. While playing games, games need a lot of the computer resources. The cpu is heavily used in some games and so because it is heavily used it get really really hot and that's why the fans kick on to cool it off. That's why the 100%. Also you might have some programs running in the background like antivirus, antispyware and many other programs that will use the cpu.

If your cpu is at a near constant 100% usage, say right after you boot up and before you've done anything, then chances are you've got some program running in the background that is doing some major work, is buggy, or is doning something bad.

I would also be concered if it is causing too much heat generation. Heat destroys cpus. (I know, I've done it) If it is an intel, then your processor will throttle back(slow down) on it's own, or just freeze the computer. If it is freezing, then you really need to get it looked at by someone who knows what they're doing.

If you are seeing 100% in Task Manager, then you may have a virus, adware, or malware running in you rcomputer tying up the processor. Heat generation by a CPU is not necessarily a function of the % in the Task Manager. Mechanical fan noise is not a function of that either. If your BIOS warns you that the CPU fan is inoperative or the CPU temperature is too high, get it serviced. Hope this helps.

The CPU is the Central Processor Unit. If they stay at 100% it means that your PC isn't powerful enough for what you're trying to do. What do they read when you're not doing anything? If they're not less than 25 there's a good chance that a virus is eating up power.

The cpu would be like the motor of an engine... Without a cpu you don't have a motherboard which controls your whole computer (Easiest way I can explain it)

You need to get that checked out before it dies on you... If you haven't let it rest in a while, turn it off for atleast a few hours... Try a scan disk/defrag, try removing adaware/spyware...

Easiest way, get it check out by a professional...

The fan has to have a clear intake space and the laptops I have seen have the intake underneath with a exhaust grid on the side. Make sure your not blocking the intake or like a carburetor's air intake on a car you'll think your car ran out of gas.
