Please help me. Every few weeks, I get a call from various random people whom I don't konw who insist that they are getting repeated calls from my phone number. I didn't call them. What's worse, it's not just that my number shows up in caller i.d. (I did see the ad on yahoo answers for www.spoofcard.com), but that the phone call really did come from my phone number, as they pressed whatever button it is to call someone back. I switched cell phone companies, but still get these calls. Someone told me that these spoof calls may come from creditors, but the last two people insisted this couldn't be the case. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.
These are not people I know, I've never called them, they are not my friends. Their phone numbers do not show up on my phone as people I've called. And my phone is a flip phone, so it can't make calls without being opened.

It turned out that my prefix was the same as the area code from Delaware. A bank in Delaware was making calls to people but not leaving messages. The people would hit "call back" and it wouldn't use the area code, just the first seven digits. Voila, my phone was getting the calls. Once I figured it out, I changed carriers and got a new number and that was the end of it. Thanks for your responses.

Someone (very technically inclined) may have cloned your phone.

Cell phone cloning is copying the identity of one mobile telephone to another mobile telephone.
Usually this is done for the purpose of making fraudulent telephone calls. The bill for the calls go to the legitimate subscriber.

Cloning involves modifying or replacing the EPROM in the phone with a new chip which would allow you to configure an ESN (Electronic Serial Number) via software. You would also have to change the MIN (Mobile Identification Number).

When you have successfully changed the ESN/MIN pair, your phone is an effective clone of the other phone.
Cloning requires access to ESN and MIN pairs. ESN/MIN pairs are discovered in several ways:

* Sniffing the cellular network
* Trashing cellular companies or cellular resellers
* Hacking cellular companies or cellular resellers

Cloning still works under the AMPS/NAMPS system, but has fallen in popularity as older clone-able phones are more difficult to find and newer phones have seldomly been successfully reverse-engineered.
Cloning has been successfully demonstrated under GSM, but the process is not easy and it currently remains in the realm of serious hobbyists and researchers, its also possible the people you bought the phone from are involved.

A lot of spoofing is done by people suffering from the effects of neurotoxins such as lead, mercury, fluoride, perchlorate, microwave radiation .. and the other 800,000 toxic pollutants in our food and water and air... that s gotten much, much worse since George Dubyah deregulated everything... and the present idiot-in-charge is even worse in some ways.. The numbers of mentally deranged people will only increase and worsen.. and their crimes become more and more bazaar . You can try to move out of the USA to a country not being turned into a toxic waste dump.... But the USA is a prison and you probably can t escape. Seriously. So ya ll go ahead and call me names.. cause that s all you people know how to do...that and spoof phone numbers.

Yea this is called call bluffing. They had a few programs that did this for smart phones (Android and Blackberry). I read recently that it has become illegal to do this. The problem is its hard for you to find out who did the bluffing. I'd suggest talking to your phone company (your fiancee's if you've got different companies) and asking them if its possible to trace the call and report the perpetrator. I'm not sure how they will get your credit card numbers by bluffing your number. One thing to think about is that the person would need to know both his and your number for this to work, therefore it is likely someone who knows you both and is playing a mean prank on you guys.

Maybe your phone was cloned? I would change your # if I were you because changing companies isn't going to do anything if the number is the same!
